Yuan Ze University and Far Eastern Memorial Hospital Host Medical Innovation Camp to Explore the Future of Smart Healthcare

The School of Nursing at Yuan Ze University and Far Eastern Memorial Hospital collaborated in support of the New Taipei City Education Bureau's "New Taipei Great Education Program", co-hosting the "Medical Innovation Journey: A Comprehensive Exploration from Basics to Smart Healthcare" camp.

The event attracted numerous enthusiastic high school students interested in the medical and nursing fields. Distinguished guests, including Deputy Director-General of the New Taipei City Education Bureau, Liu Ming-Chao, Yuan Ze University President, Liao Ching-Jung, College of Medicine Dean and Deputy Director of the Teaching Department at Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, Professor Chen Yun, and Deputy Director of Nursing at Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, Chen Mei-Fang, attended the event to encourage participants to pursue their dreams in healthcare.

Su Ying-Hua, Chair of Yuan Ze University’s School of Nursing, noted that the camp integrated medical skills with cutting-edge technology, allowing students to not only experience the professional aspects of healthcare firsthand but also explore the endless possibilities of smart healthcare. The diverse and engaging program covered topics such as surgical wound suturing techniques, CPR team competitions, speech and swallowing rehabilitation experiences, and smart healthcare innovations. Participants practiced suturing techniques, simulating the process of a surgeon treating wounds, gaining insight into the professional demands and sense of accomplishment in the medical field. The four top-performing students were awarded the "Golden Fingers Award" by Professor Chen Yun, recognizing their exceptional precision and skill.

During the CPR team competition, students simulated emergency situations, learning to perform life-saving procedures efficiently within a limited time. This activity not only enhanced their medical expertise but also developed teamwork and time management skills. In the speech and swallowing rehabilitation session, participants learned about the importance of vocal health in communication and personally experimented with food thickeners, gaining an understanding of how speech therapists assist patients with swallowing difficulties.

Additionally, the smart healthcare exploration segment introduced students to how technology is transforming medical education and clinical practice. They witnessed how mobile applications facilitate paperless medical record management and experienced the application of VR technology in medical training, offering a glimpse into future healthcare trends.

At the end of the camp, students visited the smart healthcare units at Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, where they observed outpatient clinics, intensive care units, and general wards. They saw firsthand how smart medical equipment is applied in clinical practice, gaining a deeper understanding of how technology enhances patient care and operational efficiency. This immersive experience provided students with a clearer perspective on the future of smart healthcare and their potential career paths.

A participant, surnamed Wang, shared that the camp not only deepened their understanding of the professionalism and diversity of medical work but also sparked a strong interest in medical technology, inspiring them to pursue a future career in healthcare.

Looking ahead, Yuan Ze University’s School of Nursing and Far Eastern Memorial Hospital plan to continue collaborating to host similar programs, dedicating their efforts to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals. Through these camps, they hope to inspire more young students interested in the medical field to join Yuan Ze University’s School of Nursing and help shape a new era of smart healthcare.
