Jian Hong-Yu, a student from Yuan Ze University’s Department of Foreign Languages and Applied, was successfully selected to participate in the 2025 Japan Cultural Exchange Program. He was recommended by the Taiwan-Japan Exchange Association and took part in the program held at the Japan Foundation Kansai International Center from February 11 to March 26, 2025. A total of 27 foreign students from seven countries were chosen for this honor. The 44-day program was fully funded, covering round-trip airfare, accommodation, and transportation expenses.
In addition, the program emphasized the cultivation of key competencies for a globalized society, such as broadening one’s perspective, embracing diversity, future thinking, caring for others, and fostering tolerance for different cultures. The organizers hoped that the participants would apply what they learned in their future careers and contribute to both Japanese society and the international community, becoming competitive global talents.
Jian Hong-Yu expressed that the program was an invaluable learning experience. Aside from improving his Japanese language skills, the most significant growth came from the exchange with students from other countries, which broadened his international perspective. The itinerary included visits to Japanese elementary schools, home visits, study trips to Hiroshima and Nara, and company visits to Japanese enterprises, allowing participants to explore and experience Japanese culture and society firsthand. The program also provided opportunities to deeply explore the SDGs by focusing on food, tourism, and diversity, encouraging participants to think critically about future sustainability.
Yuan Ze University was extremely proud of Jian Hong-Yu for receiving this prestigious opportunity and hoped that more students in the future would participate in international exchange programs. These programs help expand international perspectives, enhance cross-cultural communication skills, and lay a solid foundation for future development.
