Yuan Ze University’s 30 International Students Enjoyed the Splendor of the Taiwan Lantern Festival

To promote international cultural exchange, Yuan Ze University organized a visit for international students from nearly 30 countries to experience the 2025 Taiwan Lantern Festival. This year’s festival, themed "Illuminating a Thousand Ponds, Linking Taoyuan," combined Taoyuan’s pond landscape with its youthful city character, creating a grand light and shadow feast. A total of 126 Yuan Ze international students were amazed by the spectacular event.

Director of the Chinese Language Center, Huang Yu-Lan, stated that this event was co-organized with Yuan Ze University’s Global Cultural Initiative USR Project. The activity received an overwhelming response, with over a hundred students signing up instantly. Participants came from countries such as the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Honduras, Saint Lucia, Slovakia, Sudan, Turkey, India, Jordan, Bangladesh, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam. Through this cultural experience, students gained a deeper understanding of Taiwanese traditions, appreciated local art, and strengthened their sense of cultural connection.

The Taoyuan City Government Transportation Bureau carefully planned an itinerary for Yuan Ze faculty and students. In addition to arranging two professional English-speaking guides to introduce the exhibits, all students were specially invited to the VIP viewing platform to witness the "Infinite Paradise Island" main lantern show, which stood 18 meters tall. The mesmerizing display, featuring powerful music and AI-driven dynamic technology, left students in awe.

Emma, a student from Germany enrolled in the International Bachelor Program in Strategic Communication, expressed her admiration for Taiwan, calling it a beautiful and welcoming country. She appreciated the opportunity to participate in such a meaningful cultural experience while pursuing her studies. Ekramul and Shabit, both students from the College of Informatics and originally from Bangladesh, remarked that the Taiwan Lantern Festival beautifully incorporated diverse cultural elements and dazzling colors, making it an unforgettable experience. They also praised Taoyuan for its rich cultural atmosphere and highlighted Yuan Ze’s Muslim-friendly campus, which made them feel a sense of belonging even while studying abroad.

Director Huang Yu-Lan emphasized that, in addition to fostering interdisciplinary talents, the university frequently arranged for international students to participate in traditional activities and cultural festivals, helping them recognize Taiwan’s international strengths. Furthermore, the Chinese Language Center had recently strengthened its "International Talent Retention Program," offering intensive Mandarin courses to enhance students’ language proficiency and improve their TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language) .
